On the coast of the Noto Peninsula in Ishikawa Prefecture lies Wakura Onsen, one of Japan’s most famous hot spring towns. Known for its long history, beautiful views of Nanao Bay, and traditional Japanese hospitality, the area has welcomed travelers for more than a thousand years. Now, this famous hot spring destination has reopened one of its beloved footbath spots with a very special new theme: Pokémon.
On May 12, the footbath area at Wakura Onsen Yuttari Park in the city of Nanao officially restarted operations as the “Wakura Pokémon Footbath.” The facility had been closed after the 2024 Noto Peninsula earthquake damaged pipes and other equipment. The reopening is being welcomed as one of the brighter recovery stories from the disaster-hit region.
The new footbath combines two things that many people associate with Japan: hot spring culture and Pokémon, one of Japan’s most famous pop culture creations. Around the footbath, visitors can find seven Water-type Pokémon characters, including Gyarados and Politoed, placed beside the steaming hot spring water. Guests can soak their feet while enjoying views of Nanao Bay together with the Pokémon characters.
A woman visiting from Imizu City in neighboring Toyama Prefecture smiled and said, “I’m so happy to enjoy a footbath together with Pokémon.”
The renovation reportedly became possible after a proposal from the Pokémon With You Foundation, a charitable organization connected with Pokémon that supports children and communities. Local tourism officials hope the attraction will bring both Japanese and international visitors back to Wakura Onsen.
The chairman of the Wakura Onsen Tourism Association described the facility as “a wonderful place where Pokémon, born in Japan, and Japanese hot spring culture come together.” He also expressed hope that people from around the world will visit the area.
For many people outside Japan, hot springs are already a symbol of relaxation and traditional travel culture. By adding Pokémon to the experience, Wakura Onsen has created something playful, welcoming, and uniquely Japanese — while also sending a hopeful message that the Noto region continues moving forward after the earthquake.
和倉温泉の新しい足湯で、ポケモンとリラックス
石川県の能登半島の海岸沿いには、日本でも最も有名な温泉地の一つである和倉温泉があります。長い歴史、美しい七尾湾の景色、そして日本らしいおもてなしで知られるこの地域は、千年以上にわたり旅行者を迎えてきました。現在、この有名な温泉地では、とても特別な新テーマを持った人気の足湯スポットの一つが再開されました。そのテーマは「ポケモン」です。
5月12日、七尾市にある「和倉温泉湯っ足りパーク」の足湯エリアが、「わくらポケモン足湯」として正式に営業を再開しました。この施設は、2024年の能登半島地震によって配管などの設備が損傷したため閉鎖されていました。この再開は、被災地域における明るい復興の話題の一つとして歓迎されています。
この新しい足湯は、多くの人々が日本を連想する二つのものを組み合わせています。それは温泉文化と、日本を代表するポップカルチャー作品の一つであるポケモンです。足湯の周囲には、ギャラドスやニョロトノを含む7体の「みずタイプ」のポケモンキャラクターが設置されています。訪問客は、ポケモンたちと一緒に七尾湾の景色を楽しみながら足を温泉に浸すことができます。
隣県の富山県射水市から訪れた女性は笑顔で、「ポケモンと一緒に足湯を楽しめてとても幸せです」と話しました。
改修は、子どもたちや地域社会を支援するポケモン関連の慈善団体である Pokémon With You Foundation からの提案によって実現したと報じられています。地元の観光関係者たちは、この新しい施設が日本国内だけでなく海外からの観光客も和倉温泉へ呼び戻してくれることを期待しています。
和倉温泉観光協会の会長は、この施設について「日本で生まれたポケモンと日本の温泉文化が融合した素晴らしい場所」と説明しました。また、世界中から多くの人々がこの地域を訪れてくれることへの期待も語りました。
多くの外国人にとって、日本の温泉はすでにリラックスや伝統的な旅行文化の象徴となっています。そこにポケモンが加わることで、和倉温泉は遊び心があり、親しみやすく、とても日本らしい体験を生み出しました。そして同時に、能登地域が地震の後も前へ進み続けているという希望のメッセージも発信しています。
